RFID Configurator.
Even you can use 0.5W modules without a power supply, I would strongly suggest to use one.
(USB from a PC usually pushes about 500 mV.)
Connect USB and PSU to Sampo and power it on.
Use USB Auto Connect and hit “Connect”.
This is what you should see;
On RIGHT hand side you see what you have at this moment. FW, Serial etc..
On LEFT hand side there are tabs to select what you need to configure to your Sampo.
Lowest one is to WRITE all of your settings to the device. Whatever you select on upper tabs,
will have no effect, until you WRITE them on this lowest tab here.
NOTE, that ethernet FW cannot be upgraded with just USB connected. You need to have also Ethernet connection.
On NETWORK SETTINGS there are only few things;
You can insert a static IP, if needed, and you can select if you want to use this device as a client or Server.
On DEVICE SETTINGS you can select
-GPIO (General Purpose In/Out) settings
-Sensor settings
On RF LINK there are much more to select;
-Region. This is nowadays LOCKED at all times on newest FWs’ because of legal restrictions.
If any of your customers ever needs to ship a device from Europe to US (for example), and they need
to set another region, pass that query to us at NordicID HQ every time. There needs to be signed
form which indicates that it will be solely on customers’ own risk to do so. Then we will release a password for
the customer and they are able to make a new selection.
-TX Power and all of the settings for RFID -module.
You will need to understand the basics of RFID-technology to use these correctly.
I strongly suggest you to read this document, and you’ll get the hang of it all!
-Filters, Power saving & Timeouts, not usually selected on service & test purposes. Customers can use these to filter out
some unwanted behavior or to restrict the RFID power to certain distance.
-Auto Tune, Use this feature for the device to autotune the RFID-engine at all times for best performance.
ANTENNA SETTINGS
-Antenna, use these to configure AUXiliary ports, if they are used. DISABLE them, if not needed,
because RF-power is equally distributed to all used ports & internal antenna. If all AUX-ports are enabled,
but not used, this will decrease the performance radically.
-Tune Antenna, select to tune only the internal antenna, if none of the AUX-ports are used.
At every time I use “Tune all”, I will need to insert 50ohm / 10dBm RF-terminals on
every AUX-port while doing tuning.
If you are on the customers’ site doing the tuning, it will be best to tune with those real antennas that
are connected to get the best performance. While tuning antennas, make sure there are no hands, metal
or rather anything on top of the antenna(s).
FIRMWARE
Tick on the box you’ll need to upgrade and fetch the file(s).
-Bootloader is 1.5A
-FW is NUR -dependent (explained earlier)
-Ethernet also dependent on module. On Sampo S1 the latest is FW 1033.
CONFIGURE DEVICE
Lastly you will need to tick the check boxes you want to configure, make sure you select the correct type of device
from the drop-down -menu and lastly WRITE the settings using “Configure Device” -button.
Once all of these are done, go back to the “Connected” -tab and click “Disconnect”, so you can have also the RFID Demo opened on your PC.
ADVANCED INVENTORY
Go to CONFIGURE ANTENNAS to select internal or EXT-port reading
Tick check-box(es) and select one of all antenna(s) on the right
Go back to RFID Parameters -tab.
Check the settings as below, use full power, place some tags above the antenna in use and hit on “Start Inventory”.
Check reading speed and tags found on the right.
If you need, stop inventory and go to select another antenna and read again. Test all used antennas.
WRITING A TAG
On TAG WRITE -tab, select one tag. If you know what tag to write, no problem, just select it.
If you have multiple tags read and you’re not sure, just lower the TX-level to find the correct one.
Select the tag and it comes to the right hand side. Now you can modify it, but make sure you
input correct amount of bits, evenly. Try at first to modify the last digit and hit “Write EPC”.
If you get errors, increase TX-power and try again.
DEBUGGER (FR22 does not support reflected power reading at the moment)
This is useful to get info from your device to our Support! On LOGS-tab there is
“Enable logging into file”, and also the “INFO”-tab, from where you can see
the reflected power levels measured on your device.
On troubles,
If you open up Nordic ID RFID Demo and make the connection,
could you go to the “Debugger” and “Info” -tab and from there
hit the “Export NUR module settings”.
Save the file and send it to us.
